Common questions
about neurology.

Find answers to the most common questions about neurological consultations, electroneuromyography, and appointments.

When should I see a neurologist?
See a neurologist when you experience symptoms such as frequent or severe headaches, dizziness, tingling, muscle weakness, memory changes, tremors, seizures, or any neurological change that causes concern. Early assessment is essential for an accurate diagnosis.
What is electroneuromyography?
Electroneuromyography (EMG/NCS) is a neurophysiological exam that evaluates the function of peripheral nerves and muscles. It consists of two parts: nerve conduction study (NCS) and electromyography (EMG). It is essential for diagnosing neuropathies, radiculopathies, and muscle diseases.
Is electroneuromyography painful?
The exam may cause some discomfort, especially during the electromyography portion, which uses fine needles. In most patients, the discomfort is mild and tolerable. The physician guides the patient throughout the entire procedure to ensure maximum comfort.
What symptoms may indicate neuropathy?
The most common symptoms of peripheral neuropathy include tingling, numbness, burning or pain in the feet and hands, muscle weakness, electric shock sensations, and balance difficulties. Diabetic patients, those with a history of chemotherapy, or nerve compressions are at higher risk.
